I have had one of the loveliest days today, like you would not believe. It's been wonderful just to be by myself for most of it, do what I wanted and enjoy not worrying about Uni, work, the bloody Equestrian Club etc.
I did have a 2 hour lecture this morning, but even that was great, because it was all my A-level Biology again with a bit of Geography thrown in, which I really enjoyed looking over again. I genuinely find the Carbon Cycle really interesting and the guy was a guest lecturer, so getting a different view on things was really good.
After this, I went home, submitted the last thing for the assignment that's in today, made lunch and then made my way to Shrewsbury. For those who know little about Shrewsbury, it is surrounded on most parts by the River Severn and has and English and Welsh bridge, I didn't need to cross the Welsh bridge at any point today, but true to form, my navigation round towns failed me and we crossed the Welsh bridge anyway. Eventually I crossed the English bridge instead and got to the car park I was trying to find. The car park was only £2.70 for the whole day, so I knew it was going to be a good day.
I have been shopping, for ornaments in a lovely shop called Hunters which is unfortunately closing down soon. Therefore bought a couple of cottages for mum and a Border Fine Arts Simmental calves model for me, I've always wanted something from Border Fine Arts, so this seemed an opportunity.
Next on the agenda was a visit to the castle and Shropshire Regimental Museum. It was wonderful!! I ate my lunch in the castle grounds, with the sun shining, bees buzzing as if it were late spring etc, bliss!! The museum is very well done, and very informative. I spent a good 2 hours there, and it's not the biggest museum in the world. The other bonus was the fact it's free for students.
I then carried on the cultural day with a visit to the other museum in Shrewsbury, particularly enjoying the section about Darwin, who was born in the town. Planning to take the boyf there when he visits in a couple of weeks, but he finds Taxidermy creepy, and there's a lot of it, so we might have to give the Darwin section a miss!
After a wander round the town (again) I went to a lovely pub, that the Elder Basons and I found last year for some dinner, it was very nice, lovely service and not too busy. Felt a bit weird being there on my own, it's not something I do regularly, but it was enjoyable in my own company.
The pee-est-der-resistance (I don't speak French very well...) was the evening's plans. I met back up with the lady that I met on Saturday for the Where The Working Boats Went production. This evening we went to the beautiful Lion Hotel in Shrewsbury (I felt rather under-dressed, it was a bit swanky) to see a folk/bluegrass duo called The Carrivick Sisters. They had a wonderful support act, but these sisters are just phenomenal. They're probably in their early 20s, and both sing beautifully and play a range of string instruments. They're from Salcombe in South Devon, which is one of my favourite ever places. I wish I was them.
Currently listening to the album of there's that I bought, which has a song all about a day being a perfect day, wearing pretty flowery dresses and having a picnic etc, that I particularly liked, and will be perfect for the playlist I'm making for me and Little One (my 16yr old friend from back home) for when we go on our planned picnic to Kedleston Hall when I'm back home for Easter. I have to say I am very much looking forward to it, plan to make cakes for the occasion and wear a pretty dress if the weather is suitable! The song is perfect! Along with the rest of the album, they are soooo talented.
Anyway, I guess that this wonderful day of culture and arts must come to an end (officially that was 27 minutes ago...) and tomorrow will be back to normality, lectures, work etc.
Enjoy your day :)
